In addition to the standard Montessori curriculum, Montessori American School offers enrichment classes to provide an even broader educational experience. Children who are enrolled here will automatically receive three of the four following enrichment classes as part of their tuition:
Spanish (Ages 2 – 6)
Spanish is introduced as a second language at a time when a child is in a sensitive period of language. According to Dr. Montessori: “No child can learn to perfection as many languages as he hears spoken about him.” The primary goal in our program is to develop conversational skills.
Art and Art History (Ages 4 & 5)
Art Class (for 4 year olds)
Our experienced certified Art Teacher, will introduce art activities with oil pastels, color chalk, markers, pains and collages. Your children will work with origami and drawing skills. Every lesson will be simple and lots of fun!
Art History for K’s (5 year olds)
Your child will be getting a start in art appreciation. Every lesson will be a great learning experience, starting with cave drawings to present day artists. They will learn drawing skills and how to work with different mediums.
Yoga (ages 3-6)
Yoga helps children learn techniques for self-health, relaxation and inner fulfillment. Children derive enormous benefits from yoga. Physically, it enhances their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. In addition, their concentration, sense of calmness and relaxation improves. Yoga is a great gift to give your children.
Music (all ages for a fee)
A music program will help your child enhance his social skills, coordination, listening and motor skills. Participating in music activities also improves learning skills and memory. Ear training, rhythmic activities, piano keyboard activities, string instruments (lap harp), rhythm instruments, music alphabets, do-re-mi’s, rhythmic notation and much more!
Fun with food
Our students loved having fun with food so much at our summer camp, that we decided to add it to our enrichment programs. Your child will learn to make fruit skewers, ants on a log (celery, peanut butter, with raisins on top), “worms in the dirt,” “goldfish in the ocean,” and other easy recipes for young children to enjoy. Students develop a sense of confidence and independence, knowing that they are capable of preparing food for themselves and others. Don’t worry. Your child will not be placed near a hot stove, oven, hot water, and sharp objects are monitored closely.
Your child will absolutely LOVE our enrichment programs. In fact, if your child is a bit shy at first, don’t be surprised to see them come out of their shell, especially in our art and music programs. Ready to come in for a tour of the school?
